Building his love for Learning
Igniting a Passion for Discovery
Christ Church Grammar School celebrates and values all that it means to be a boy. With enjoyment and engagement significantly influencing how students learn, skilled teachers and a unique culture create the perfect environment for motivating boys and developing their love for learning. The School’s academic diversity program allows extension for those who are gifted and support for students with learning challenges.
Phases of Learning
Christ Church’s Phases of Learning is the core framework for each age and stage of learning. Each phase provides opportunities for cognitive, social and emotional, creative and physical development and guides teaching.
-
Pre-Kindergarten to Year 2 - Playing with Purpose
He explores, discovers, questions and belongs in a secure and nurturing environment.
The early years community is based on meaningful interactive play in a natural, caring and educationally stimulating environment. The program is uniquely designed and based on the School’s philosophy, thinking and learning and embracing teachable moments in nature’s playground.
-
Years 3 to 4 - Building his love for Learning
He reasons, makes choices and applies fundamentals to his learning.
In this phase, the focus is on adding to the foundation created in the early years. Students are engaged in fun and interesting activities designed to help them thrive in literacy and numeracy. They are given increased opportunities to engage in groups, as working collaboratively and developing their social skills is an integral part of the program.
-
Years 5 to 6 - Responsibility, Initiative and Connections
He continues to take responsibility for his learning while exploring his character.
Teaching and learning in the upper years progresses with a focus on the boys taking responsibility for their growth and development in all aspects of school life. Their sense of self is further developed by exploring their character and making connections with their social and emotional learning. Leadership opportunities provide the boys with experiences to guide their peers by utilising their understanding of the School’s values that underpin the whole boy.
Teaching and Learning
The most important part of the learning process is the quality of teaching. The School employs exceptional teachers who are skilled in delivering differentiated learning opportunities and therefore cater to the needs of all boys.
Core Subjects
From Pre-Primary to Year 6 the Western Australian Curriculum is followed in all subjects.
Core Subjects
-
English
Exposure to a variety of rich and engaging literature, as well as an emphasis upon oral language development, underpin our English teaching. Through explicit, evidence-based programs, boys learn to become effective, efficient and thoughtful readers who learn to discover and deepen their thinking by considering the viewpoints of others. Through modelled texts, boys become purposeful writers who think critically, express ideas clearly, and strive for excellence in communication.
-
Humanities and Social Sciences
Through the teaching of Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS), boys build empathy, social awareness, and a sense of responsibility as active citizens. They learn to appreciate diversity, understand perspectives, and recognise how their choices and actions can shape communities and the environment. Teaching HASS develops critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, encouraging students to question, investigate, and reflect on local and global issues.
-
Mathematics
Mathematics is highly valued where a focus upon deep understanding, reasoning and problem solving is built upon the establishment of solid foundations. The teaching of Mathematics is collaborative, evidence based and responsive to the needs of each boy, ensuring both support and extension. Data is used to inform practice and monitor progress. Christ Church aims to nurture capable and confident learners who view themselves as mathematicians who approach challenges with persistence and a positive mindset.
-
Science
The aim is to ensure students develop an interest in Science as a means of expanding their curiosity and willingness to explore, ask questions about and speculate on the changing world in which they live.
From Pre-Primary to Year 6 the Western Australian Curriculum is followed in all subjects.
