Inspiring Expression and Connection
Where Creativity Grows
The School’s Arts program fosters creativity and self-expression through a broad range of disciplines. Students engage in imaginative learning experiences that develop their skills, confidence, and a deep appreciation of the Arts. The curriculum is designed to be inclusive and progressive, encouraging all students to explore new ideas and challenge themselves artistically. From foundational visual inquiry and practical workshops to public performances and exhibitions, the Arts play a vital role in nurturing individual talents and building a vibrant, supportive creative community.

Visual Art
An introduction to Visual Arts in the early years supports learning across the curriculum. Art programs identify ways in which students can develop their ability to respond to and understand the world, to think, to feel, to shape and communicate ideas through a range of mediums.
Visual Arts involvement extends beyond scheduled lesson time, in the form of workshops, visits to galleries, the Week of the Arts, annual student exhibitions and a comprehensive artist-in-residence program.

Dance and Drama
Dance and Drama provide students with a creative space to explore expression, performance, and movement in a safe and engaging environment.
A highlight of the program is the annual Year 6 production, a full-scale performance that brings together music, drama, and dance. All Year 6 students are encouraged to audition, with opportunities both on stage and behind the scenes.

Music
The Music program offers a rich and diverse range of activities, including singing, dancing, composing, playing percussion instruments, exploring music theory, and engaging with music technology. Its core purpose is to build a strong foundation in musical understanding while preparing students for ensemble participation and future musical studies.
Students have the opportunity to join a variety of ensembles, allowing them to develop their skills further, collaborate with peers, and experience the joy of making music together.
The Midnite Youth Theatre Company
The Midnite Youth Theatre Company, based at Christ Church Grammar School, is Western Australia’s longest-running youth theatre company. As a vital part of the school’s co-curricular program, Midnite provides students with enriching opportunities beyond the classroom, fostering creativity and talent through high-quality, professionally staged productions. Each year, the company presents a diverse season of performances featuring students from Years 7 to 12, including participants from other schools.
I think the best thing about Drama at Christ Church is that every student is able to develop their confidence and their social skills. From the Prep School to the Senior School, students are able to take part in productions with the Midnite Youth Theatre Company. Students develop their emotional intelligence, their management skills, their creativity, their critical thinking skills and most of all, their social confidence.

Music
Music is a core part of life at Christ Church, welcoming students of all skill levels. The program combines theory and practical studies, supported by expert instrumental tutors and a wide range of ensembles.
In Years 7 and 8, students choose between Music Extension (for experienced musicians) and Music General (a semester course). Both cover theory, aural, composition, and performance using instruments and music software.
In Years 9 and 10, Music Extension is a full-year course with advanced work in performance, theory, and composition, including recording and conducting. Students often take leadership roles and perform at school events.
In Years 11 and 12, students can study ATAR Music, split between performance and written work. It includes a final recital and opportunities to perform in major concerts, with study in music theory, aural, and history.

Visual Arts (Art, Design and Media)
The Visual Arts program at Christ Church equips students with a strong creative foundation, encouraging both breadth and depth in their artistic development. Grounded in a contemporary framework, the program integrates traditional genres, media, and cultural contexts with modern concepts and practices.
In Years 7 and 8, students engage in a broad taster course, developing skills in visual inquiry, critique, and experimentation across both two- and three-dimensional forms.
In Years 9 and 10, students deepen their skills in fine art and digital media through open-ended, project-based inquiry, laying the groundwork for future creative pathways.
In Years 11 and 12, a range of ATAR and General courses are offered, including Design, Visual Arts, and Media Production and Analysis. These allow students to tailor their studies toward university entry or other tertiary opportunities, with the flexibility to take one or multiple disciplines in their final years.
