Empowering Happy Learners

The health and wellbeing of students is wide-reaching – it includes a whole range of factors, including academic achievement, physical activity, mental and emotional development, social connection and a sense of purpose.

Centre for Health and Wellbeing

In 2015, Christ Church Grammar School established the Centre for Health and Wellbeing. The work of the Centre impacts students from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 and is focused on influencing and inspiring a new generation of boys to make informed decisions regarding holistic good health and wellbeing.

Students are taught strategies to develop healthy ways of living. These include forming close bonds with peers and mentors, incorporating physical activity into their busy lives, mindfulness and other stress management techniques to deal with the demands of life.

Pastoral Care Program

This proactive program involves the ongoing commitment of families, educators and the student to creating supportive relationships. Relationships are established and maintained through the students’ connection with their Tutor, Head of House, and vertical House group.

In addition, Pastoral care for boarding students includes the Square of Care relationships.

I've always felt very supported at Christ Church. I know that if I ever needed to talk about anything, there will be a teacher here for me. In Health and Wellbeing classes, we've had conversations that have helped me, whether something was happening in my external life or in school.

Peer Support

From the earliest years in the Preparatory School, students learn the importance of looking out for one another. A dedicated buddy program pairs the youngest learners with older peers, creating supportive relationships that build confidence and connection.

In the Senior School, leadership is visible in the Peer Support Program, as Year 11 students mentor and guide Year 7 students as they navigate their first year in the Senior School.

Year 12 students are offered positions that include House and School Prefects, enabling them to further develop their mentoring and leadership skills.

Centre for Outdoor Education - Kooringal

Kooringal, meaning “Place by the Water”, is the School’s purpose-built Outdoor Education facility located near Dwellingup. Serving as the heart of outdoor learning from Years 4 to 10, Kooringal offers far more than a traditional camp experience, it’s a place where students venture beyond the classroom, challenge themselves, and develop confidence, resilience, and character.

Year 4 Rites of Passage

Little Queenslea Drive

The Little Queenslea Drive program is for Year 4 students, and focuses on participation, co-operation, collaboration, resilience and team membership.

As students enter Years 3 and 4, they transition from play-based learning into a learning phase characterised by choices and more structure. This move requires the development of different skills, knowledge and behaviours as they start to think logically, make connections, consider things in more abstract terms and engage in activities for longer periods of time.

Year 9 Program

The Making of Men

The Making of Men program is a year-long program for all Year 9 students, bringing them together at a time when they are experiencing significant adolescent development and are ready to explore the range of new and exciting possibilities that life presents.

Over the course of the year, the program aligns the concepts and narratives explored in the School’s Health and Wellbeing curriculum, the Outdoor Education program at Kooringal and the On Queenslea Drive experience.

The program involves the whole community, ensuring the young men develop a strong sense of identity and belonging. The Making of Men complements the existing holistic framework of Christ Church and its focus on building the inner man.

Rites of Passage

On Queenslea Drive

On Queenslea Drive (OQD) plays a vital role in the developmental journey of  Year 9 students. This 16-day, live-in program immerses students in a unique on-campus experience designed to foster independence, personal growth and reflection.

Students participate in structured sessions before and after the school day, focusing on life skills, values, and spiritual exploration. During their stay, students are accommodated in a purpose-built facility equipped with bunk beds, lockers, a recreation area, laundry facilities, and drying space, creating a supportive environment for learning and connection.
